In Praise of the IRS

Slate has an article on the IRS and how it has transformed into a more customer centric organization. Also, Charles Rosotti, former IRS commissioner (97-02), wrote a very interesting book on the IRS's transformation. I have had little experience with the IRS but from time to time have called with a really random question about this or that credit and if I qualify (typically not). The customer service has always been unfailingly polite. The reason tax time is such a bear is the tax code itself, not the IRS which has done quite a bit to make tax season more bearable.
