Prostitutes for the Eldery

Bloomberg has a story about a silly but interesting public outrage in Denmark. Denmark legalized prostitution in 1999 and there is a minor practice of procuring escorts for nursing home patients upon request (I am making the assumption that in Denmark these nursing homes are publicly run). Anyhow, some complain that by tolerating the practice the state is condoning and even encouraging prostitution. I understand this point but it is after all legal, and it seems to me that one area where public assistance really is needed is to aid those whose agency is severely diminished. I think the elderly fit that description. That said, sexual fulfillment probably shouldn't be a budget priority.
