Thoughts on the Jena Six

I don't really know what exactly happened with the Jena Six but from what I gather a white kid hung a noose on a tree which is offensive beyond words, inflammatory only begins to describe it. That said, beating somebody till they are unconcious, then beating them some more afterwards doesn't strike me as particulary kosher either. Even if there was significant provocation, which there clearly was here.

It's a lot more nuanced than that, Xtra. Check out the wikipedia article to give some perspective.

The marchers, from what I gathered, weren't marching necessarily to make sure the kids weren't punished for the fight, but rather for the fact that the kids were charged with attempted murder when it was fairly obvious they were just in a really rough fight.

attempted murder is indeed disproportionate, no doubt, but many of the protestors have been calling for all of the charges to be dropped.
